May was all about getting stuck into the big jobs – the kind that are messy, heavy and a bit back-breaking!
We made a proper start on the garden this month. The first big task was putting in a retaining wall using sleepers. That meant digging out a trench and getting everything level before slotting them into place. Once that was in, we started removing the soil from the other side, clearing the space where we’ll eventually put in some decking.

Indoors, we made a pretty major change too – knocking through from the living room into what will become the kitchen. We’ve created a double doorway between the two rooms, which has totally changed how the space feels. It’s one of those jobs that instantly makes everything feel a bit more connected and open.
We also hired a skip this month, which gave us the push we needed to clear out all the stuff that’s been piling up: concrete from the garden, the old hallway floor tiles and bricks from the new doorway. It’s been very satisfying to see it all go!
There’s still a long way to go with the garden, but we’re hoping to make good progress over the next couple of months – just in time to enjoy it before summer’s out.

Until next time!
