Nothing really happened in September so I’ve combined this with October’s update too.
In September, the only thing we started was prepping the soil in the garden ready for hedges to be planted. They arrived in early October, and we spent a few days planting them in the border around the garden.

After our trip to the Lakes in September we decided to plant cherry laurel bushes in the garden, though originally we were going to plant privet. David and I visited the most beautiful garden centre while in the Lakes where they had huge laurel bushes everywhere.
In preparation for the building work we had scheduled to begin at the end of October, we started to take out parts of the kitchen. We crammed the car full to the brim twice with the cabinets and took them to the skip (I do love a good skip trip).

The building work started right at the end of October. The first thing to go was the wall between the kitchen and dining room. This is one of the most exciting jobs as it really opens the room up and shows us just how much space we have to play with.

Meanwhile, at the back of the house, the brickwork above the bay window started to come out too, ready for a new lintel and roof.

The dust has been insane and I’m trying to keep on top of it each day but while they’re messy jobs, they’re also so exciting as it means getting another step closer to decorating, which is my absolute favourite part of the renovation process.
More work is planned in November and I can’t wait to see how different the house looks this time next month. Until next time!
