Our Plans for The Year Ahead (2024 Edition)

Since moving into this house, each year, around May or June, I’ve published what our priorities and plans are for the following year. I’m a bit late this year, with this post saved in my drafts for the past few weeks, but better late than never right?

Checking in on how we performed in the last 12 months, last May, I published our hopes were to:

• Finish Arthur’s room (COMPLETE)

• Put up new fences in the garden (COMPLETE)

• Make a nice seating area in the garden (INCOMPLETE)

• Fix the bathroom drainage (COMPLETE)

• Install a new upstairs bathroom (COMPLETE)

You can read the full post via this link or read the first post (my plans for 2022 – 2023) via this link.

In addition to all that, since I posted our plans for 2023 – 2024, we’ve also had a new boiler fit, finished our porch and completed our upstairs office. It’s been a busy 12 months!

This time round, our plans for the next 12 months are to…

Finish the final bedroom

We are so close to finishing the final room upstairs: Arthur’s new bedroom. As I write this, we’re just waiting for the carpet to be fitted so there’s not long to go.

Tidy up the upstairs landing and stairs

Because we knocked out walls, put in new ones, ripped out old door frames and rewired the house, the upstairs landing is in need of some TLC. Brickwork, insulation, bare floorboards and wires are all on display here so it’s our plans to get this all tidied up before Christmas.

Since moving in we’ve known how dangerous the current staircase is too. The dream would be to install new stairs too but we’ll have to see how we get on.

Install a new bathroom downstairs

Our final big project for 2024 will (hopefully) be our downstairs bathroom which, much like the upstairs landing, has fallen into a bit of disarray due to all the work that’s gone on. We’re going to take this room back to brick and install everything new.

Tidy up the garden

Our poor garden is a bit of dumping ground for tools and materials at the moment. We’ve been doing large parts of the garden each summer so we’ll continue working on it when we, hopefully, get a few decent dry weekends this summer.

Make a start on the kitchen (ideally, complete it!)

I mentioned in our June 2024 monthly round-up that we’d received the calculations for the removal of a load bearing wall between our kitchen/dining room which we plan to remove early next year. The dream is to have a new kitchen and dining room by summer next year but, as with every room in the house, it’ll take a lot of time, energy and money to get there. Watch this space!
