House Update: July 2024

Arthur helping out

In July, we cracked on with the last bedroom.

In last month’s update, I mentioned how we were adding the plasterboard onto the walls. Well, this month, all the plastering was finished, as was the painting and the panelling.

Funnily enough, the paint is an almost identical colour to the one we have in the office next door. This wasn’t the intention but when I asked David what colour we should paint the room he said ‘khaki’ so we went with Dulux’s Waxed Khaki in here. It’s a lovely green colour with grey undertones. I’m see that, at this point, half of the rooms in our house are painted green!

We also fit the radiator, added the plug sockets and light switch and fitted the door stop. The carpet is ordered too, just waiting for it to arrive!

In this room, we’ve built in a somewhat hidden door in the panelling which opens into the eaves storage. It’s a good amount of extra space we’ve gained by doing this – to think, when we moved in, this room didn’t exist and so much space behind the wall was wasted.

Throwback to when the room looked like this; it was part of one long bedroom upstairs
After dividing the room into two, this room felt more like a storage cupboard than a potential bedroom. Removing the wall, utilising as much space as possible and adding skylights has transformed this room from a cupboard to a bedroom!

What else happened this month? David set up a new camera system in our house and we sent off some samples for asbestos testing. Good news is that we’ve had the artex in our house tested multiple times now and all results show there’s no asbestos in it. It’s a bit of a different story outside the house where we have asbestos roof tiles on the garage and asbestos soffits beneath our new ones. David drilled into the soffits to install the cameras and took extra precaution to do it.

And that’s all for July. It’s gone so incredibly quickly.

Until next time!
