House Update: August 2023

I wrote about how we had a quiet month in July but we’ve more than made up for it in August.

This month we finished the vanity unit, deciding to seal the top using Neptune’s IsoGuard oil in Natural Oak. I am over the moon with how this turned out and so happy with the outcome. I mentioned in our previous month update that I’ve drafted a post about how much the unit cost us in total to makeover as well as everything we did to transform it and will share this once our bathroom is done.

Also this month, David knocked down one of the walls on our driveway so that we can actually use it. This has been a pain point since we moved in but now it’s usable and it’s genuinely amazing!

My dad started work on the bathroom, first by placing the controls and initial pipework for the shower then by drilling the hole out the wall for the drainage.

Then, one of the biggest tasks, and the thing that has really transformed this room, has been installing the skylight, which my dad and David did over the long Bank Holiday weekend.

While they were busy working on the bathroom, I spent a few weekends removing the old paint from the windows in the porch. This took an absolute age to do as I needed to do both sides and some parts were insanely fiddly. Near the glass, for example, we decided to use a paint stripper rather than the heat gun incase it cracked the glass which made the job even longer.

I also filled and painted some of the coving in the living room as you could slightly see the lines where they had been joined. Honestly, they didn’t really need doing but I was obsessing over it so decided to actually do something about it! Not going to lie though, once I started this, I massively regretted it as it looked awful for a few days while it dried and I thought I’d ruined it for good.

And that’s it for this month… until next time!
