Our Plans for the Year Ahead

Back in June last year I wrote this post, our plan of action for the house.

Almost one year on, I am chuffed to say we have ticked off everything on the list. From removing the ivy in the garden, as well as the hot tub and pond, to plastering the walls and mending the coving, we’ve made brilliant progress on the house and I can’t wait to see what we achieve in another year.

There’s still an awful lot to do and every inch of the house needs some sort of repair or decoration to get it how we’d like it; as David and my dad constantly remind me, I need to take it one step at a time and not get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work we need to do!

Nonetheless, breaking it up into manageable steps and setting our priorities, this year we have a few main goals we’d like to achieve…

Finish Arthur’s room

The furniture for Arthur’s room will come hopefully in June but there’s still a lot to sort — blinds, bedding, lighting, etc, there’s plenty still to get organised before I can check this room off as ‘done’.

Putting up the new garden fence

We have four fences in our garden, none of which match! At different heights, and with different styles, our plan this summer is to put up our own.

Making a nice seating area in our garden

With a new fence, and the hot tub now removed, I’d like to create a nice seating area in the garden in the summer. The plan is to use the existing concrete slab as a base, put stone slabs on top, and plant new shrubs along the border.

Fixing the bathroom drainage

We split one of the upstairs bathrooms to fit a bigger bathroom in but we also needed to move the bathroom to the right side of the house due to drainage. Our current upstairs toilet is a macerator (and never used for this reason) so our plans are to install a new soil pipe and repair the existing drainage.

Installing a new upstairs bathroom

With the drainage fixed we’ll be able to install a new bathroom upstairs which is so exciting as both bathrooms need major work done to them.

Our upstairs ‘bathroom’ currently…
