It’s crazy to think we’ve been in the house one month, seems like we’ve been here forever but really we’ve only just started on the renovations.
Once we moved in we set our list of priorities and at the top of the list was a rewire and brand new doors and windows.
We knew the electrics were bad before we moved in. One of the main rooms, for example, only has one socket and the previous owners had used an extension cord running under the carpet to try and combat the issue.
We also had lots of unexplained wires all around the house and we were surprised to find plug sockets under radiators and in the skirting boards, of all places.
So we got a rewire sorted. And it happened. In one day. The dust was unbearable but now the worst is over with we can now focus on our next task: windows and doors.

This month, we got a few quotes for windows and doors. Every single one needs replacing so this will be a huge job.
At the back and side of the house we have a few original timber windows which are starting to rot. At the front all the windows had been poorly fitted meaning the house is always drafty because of it.
We also decided to get all fascia’s, soffits and guttering done at the same time too as these were also falling to bits – there’s one part outside which is particularly bad as it’s been repaired using plywood.
While waiting for both jobs we started work in the garden which was starting to become overrun with ivy and weeds. This wasn’t an easy task and took us, my grandad and my dad a good couple of days take down the ivy on one side of the garden and get rid of it.

We also discovered a goldfish in the pond and lots of frogs and tadpoles which brought our garden work to a halt. We rehomed the goldfish but with the tadpoles we’re having to wait several weeks for them to fully grow before rehoming them too.

We also removed all the radiator covers, took up the carpets upstairs and started giving the exterior a really good clean, getting rid of all the moss, and getting the house ready for the new windows which will be installed next month.
Looking back on it, it’s been a really busy month but we’re only just scratching the surface.
I’m trying to remember to take photos and videos of everything and post them on Instagram… so far so good.
Until next time!
